SANDY — Twenty juniors and seniors representing 10 Utah high schools participated in the Ford/AAA Student Auto Skills competition Thursday at Salt Lake Community College.
The two-person student teams raced the clock to correctly identify and fix intentionally installed "bugs" in identical Ford vehicles.
After properly repairing the vehicle, the teammates then drove across the finish line where their accuracy and workmanship was judged.
Those students earned their spot in the Utah finals by recording one of the state's top scores in the preliminary online exam.
In the end, Chandler Adkins and Jordan Kearns from Riverton High School won today's title of Utah's top auto technicians. They will travel to the Ford World Headquarters in Michigan to compete in the national finals in June.
Nearly $12 million in scholarships will be offered at both the state and national level to Ford/AAA Students Auto Skills competitors.
