WEST VALLEY CITY — Five people were killed in four separate accidents on Utah roads late Saturday night and early Sunday, including two women hit by a truck while walking across Redwood Road.
Just after 2 a.m. Sunday, Andrea Fuguel, 37, of Taylorsville, and Erica Warneke, 35, of West Jordan, were leaving the Westerner Club at 3660 S. Redwood Road and crossing the street to the area their car was parked when they were hit by a truck traveling north, West Valley Police Lt. Dale Brophy said.
The women, who were not in a crosswalk, were transported by ambulance to area hospitals, where they were pronounced dead, police said.
The 46-year-old man who was driving the truck was not injured in the accident and has been cooperating with investigators, police said.
Redwood Road was closed between 3100 South and 3500 South for several hours while police interviewed witnesses and gathered information related to the accident. No charges have been filed in connection with the accident, and there's no indication that alcohol was a factor, police said.
Wendy Losee, Fuguel's sister, said the two women were leaving a party with old friends from high school when they were hit. She said Fuguel leaves behind a husband and five children and that an account in her name is being set up at Zions Bank to help offset funeral costs.
Out there, it's only two lanes, and there's no shoulder. There's not a whole lot of room for maneuvering.

Just before midnight Saturday, 26-year-old Tanya Bendowski, of Draper, was killed when she crashed into the back of a semitrailer that was stopped on the side of I-15 near 11900 South.
The semi had pulled over to switch drivers and was "clearly in the emergency lane" when the Toyota Camry the woman was driving veered off the road and into the back of the semi without slowing down, said Utah Department of Public Safety Trooper Mary Kaye Lucas.
Bendowski, who was alone in the car, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said they don't believe drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
About 12:45 a.m. Sunday, 37-year-old Camille Dosch, of Farmington, was killed when the car she was riding in went off 200- to 300-foot embankment on I-80 near Mt. Aire Canyon Road in Parleys Canyon.
The car didn't roll and ended up in a creek at the bottom of the ravine. The male driver, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. Dosch wasn't wearing a seat belt.
Police say the driver had swerved to miss an obstacle in the road.
A fifth person was killed just before 6 a.m. Sunday in a head-on collision on state Route 138 near Erda Way in Tooele County.
One person from out of state was killed, another person was flown to an area hospital in critical condition and three others were taken to hospitals by ambulance. Police have not released the name of the deceased, pending notification of family.
Police say the driver of a westbound vehicle noticed that another car was traveling east in the westbound lane. Both vehicles swerved to miss each other at the same time and crashed head-on in the eastbound lane.
"Out there, it's only two lanes, and there's no shoulder," Lucas said. "There's not a whole lot of room for maneuvering."
Police say fatigue may have contributed to the car traveling in the wrong lane.
