SALT LAKE CITY — The parents of a 15-year-old special needs student were charged with child abuse Tuesday for allegedly failing to provide him appropriate medical attention.
A South Salt Lake police officer had received reports the boy had been pushed by his father at his junior high school and looked ill, according to charges filed in 3rd District Court.
The officer approached the boy and called medical personal because the boy was unable to lift his head, was covered in vomit and smelled of urine and feces, the charges state. When the boy was admitted to Primary Children's Hospital, he was suffering from severe dehydration and symptoms of early renal failure.
Vivian Hardman, 48, and David Hardman, 50, of Taylorsville, were each charged with child abuse, a third-degree felony.
