Utah State gets hot, routs Texas State 81-57

SAN MARCOS, Texas (AP) - Preston Medlin scored 21 points, Spencer Butterfield had 18 and Utah State shot 63.3 percent in the second half to rout Texas State 81-57 on Monday afternoon.

Up 31-23 at halftime, Utah State (11-1, 2-0 WAC) put the game away in the first few minutes of the second half, going on a 19-8 run capped off by Jarred Shaw's old-school three-point play. Shaw scored a lay-up and was fouled by Joel Wright, then hit the free throw to put his Aggies up 50-31 with 12:38 to play.

The Aggies led by as many as 29 in the second half and outscored Texas State 50-34 in the period.

Butterfield had nine assists and six rebounds to go along with his point total and Shaw finished his afternoon with 17 points.

Wesley Davis had 22 points, making 10 of the 12 shots he took for Texas State (4-10, 0-2). Joel Wright had 11 points and nine rebounds.
