LOGAN — The Utah State Aggies are coming off yet another heart-wrenching loss at the hands of the Cougars of BYU 6-3. The Aggies fell to 4-2 on the season and head to San Jose, Calif., to take on the SJSU Spartans.
The Spartans are sitting on a 4-1 record and are coming off a bye week after dropping the Navy Midshipmen 12-0. SJSU’s lone loss came in the season opener against Stanford on the road, but the Spartans have more then just a win streak on their mind. Head coach Mike MacIntyre’s squad is coming off two straight difficult losses at the hands of the Aggies. MacIntyre understands that the Aggies are playing at a very high level and will not be an easy win. He voices his opinions and what the Spartans are doing to prepare for Utah State in a separate Mercury News article.
The Utah State defense has been the high point of the season so far and has proven themselves time and time again. The Aggie defense has been so good, it currently ranks eighth in the nation in scoring defense, allowing just 12.8 points per game.
The Utah State defense has many leaders on the field, but redshirt freshman Kyler Fackrell stepped up his game against the Cougars and was named WAC Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts.
The Sports Network has an excellent write-up about the match-up between the Aggies and the Spartans, but the Aggie faithful won’t like the way the Network sees this game ending.
Utah State head coach Gary Andersen and his staff will have their work cut out for them, but look for the Aggie defense to step up in a big way. The road to victory for USU goes through its ability to move the football on offense and put points on the board.
