SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah lawmaker is once again trying to repeal a requirement that some restaurants mix and prepare drinks out of customers' view.

Heber City Republican Rep. Kraig Powell says that in exchange for allowing restaurants to remove drink preparation barriers, known as "Zion curtains," his proposal would require all restaurants to have an adults-only seating area and a sign warning drinks are being prepared in full view.

Supporters of the barriers say they keep restaurants from looking like bars and displaying a culture of alcohol in front of children.

The state's restaurant and hospitality industry has lobbied for several years to remove the barriers, arguing they make restaurant operations difficult and confuse tourists.

Similar proposals to remove the so-called barriers have died in the past two years.
