SALT LAKE CITY — After a little more than two years in office, U.S. Attorney for Utah David Barlow is moving on this summer.
“I have just informed Attorney General (Eric) Holder and Sens. (Orrin) Hatch and (Mike) Lee that I have decided to conclude my service as United States attorney this summer and return to private practice at Sidley Austin LLP," Barlow announced in a prepared statement Thursday. "I am making this announcement in advance of my departure so that President Obama and Sens. Hatch and Lee will be able to begin the process of selecting and vetting our next U.S. attorney."
Barlow called serving as U.S. Attorney the "most humbling honor and privilege of my career," but noted that he is stepping down "for family reasons."
Barlow technically replaced former U.S. Attorney Brett Tolman, who left office in late 2009. But Utah went 20 months without a presidential-appointed U.S. attorney. Carlie Christensen served as acting U.S. attorney during that time.
Barlow was sworn into office in late 2011.
