BOUND BROOK, N.J. (AP) — A central New Jersey man says he must have lost track of the book about football that he checked out of his local library.

That's a little bit of an understatement, since Frank Ryan has had the book for 72 years.

The Bound Brook resident tells News 12 New Jersey (http://bit.ly/1OVtp7J) he recently discovered the book, "Football Through The Years," in his attic.

He'd checked it out when he was 11 years old, in 1944.

Back then the library levied a two-cent-per-day fine for overdue books. That would amount to more than $500 now.

Ryan jokes that he hopes he doesn't go to jail. He added that he doubts there's anyone alive at the library that would know about the book.
