GREENCASTLE, Ind. — An Indiana woman went into the E.R. Friday night expecting to have an emergency appendectomy after she had a sudden onset of severe stomach pains. Instead of surgery, she ended up with a surprise baby boy.
"We were in the E.R. and they thought maybe she had gallstones. (The doctor) said, 'We'll take her back,' and then a few minutes later her water burst everywhere," New father Josh Cox told TheIndyChannel.com.
Batchelor, who is a factory worker, said her body showed no signs of pregnancy other than some weight gain and lower back pain from being on her feet all day.
"I had weight gain but it was my normal winter-time weight gain," Batchelor said. "I was shocked. Very shocked."
Batchelor gave birth that night to a healthy, full-term baby boy weighing in at 7 pounds, 3 ounces, TheIndyChannel.com reported.
Batchelor, who already has two other children, thought she was done having kids and discarded her baby items and furniture in December. Friends and family were understandably stunned with the news and have scrambled to help them get some baby supplies.
Cox and Batchelor named their surprise son after Cox's great-grandfathers General Lee and Jacob.
A Mississippi woman was also surprised with a baby last month. She found out she was pregnant with triplets at age 41 but her doctor found a fourth baby hiding in her womb during delivery.
