LAS VEGAS — The Miss USA crown was awarded Sunday night to the contestant from Connecticut, but it is Miss Utah who was getting the most attention Monday morning.

Mentions of Miss Utah on social networks skyrocketed Sunday night during the question-and-answer portion of the Miss USA pageant. Marissa Powell, Miss Utah USA, answered a question asked by NeNe Leakes, known for her appearances on "The Real Housewives of Atlanta" and "Glee."

"A recent report shows that in 40 percent of American families with children, women are the primary earners, yet they continue to earn less than men," Leakes said. "What does this say about society?"

Powell began to answer immediately, but soon seemed to realize she was not sure how to respond.

Powell quickly became an Internet sensation, with social media users pouncing on the confused, rambling answer. Some took the opportunity to point out that Utah has the lowest spending per pupil in the nation, although studies have shown per-pupil spending does not necessarily impact academic success.

Powell finished fourth in the pageant. Erin Brady, 25, representing Connecticut, won the title.
