THE INTERNET — Reddit usually does three things pretty well: Hilarious, nail-on-the-head memes; crowsourced antics or investigations and cute pictures of teensy animals. Redditors could probably turn any of these things into marketable entertainment, but one image somehow brought all of them together.

This is the story of Simon and Oliver, a raccoon and squirrel that Redditor Pianoangel420 posted hanging out and snuggling together Sunday. In less than 24 hours, a much bigger project was in the works.

Several commenters immediately pointed out that the potential of a squirrel and raccoon cartoon and/or comic power duo. User Crappy_Doodler, who posted that he has illustrated children's books before, was the first to actually make an illustration happen, placing the fuzzy creatures in a tree.

Everyone seems to think Hollywood is out of original ideas these days, but it appears it isn't totally out of creativity. Wait, did I say it's not out of creativity? That was a mistake; the creativity well is totally dry.

"This is way too cute," the user said. "I immediately imagined them going on adventures in a children's book. Had to draw it."

User Virgoan quickly followed up: "Ok, Reddit, let's write a book. Up in the trees so high were two unlikely friends. Simon is a raccoon and Oliver is a squirrel. This is a tale about how they met and the great adventure they had together!"

After a suggestion from another user, Redditors StoryTellerBob and Crappy-Doodler teamed up to write the book, complete with an upcoming Kickstarter campaign.

"I am excited to announce that I'm going to be creating the book with /u/StoryTellerBob," Crappy_Doodler posted. "You guys, I got a BUNCH of great stories and I want to thank all of you so much! I wish I could use all of them! I feel like I'm judging a contest."
