SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics show Utah's unemployment rate held steady at 6 percent from July to August.
Last August, the state's unemployment rate was 3.4 percent.
The Utah Department of Workforce Services says about 82,500 Utahns were considered unemployed in August 2009, compared to 47,600 last August.
The U.S. unemployment rate in August climbed three-tenths, to 9.7 percent.
Utah has lost 55,400 jobs in the past year.
The Department of Workforce Services says construction remains the industry with the most job losses, with about 16,100 lost over the past year.
Most Utah industries have lost jobs. Only education/health care and government have added jobs to the Utah economy over the past year.
