LOS ANGELES — With just over a month to go before the football season begins, the University of Utah has been picked to finish fifth in the South Division of the Pac-12 in a preseason poll voted upon by the media.

It is the second year in a row Utah has been selected to finish fifth in the division. Prior to the 2012 season, Utah was selected to finish second in the division. In both seasons, with 5-7 records, the Utes finished fifth in the south division.

Finishing above Utah this year was: UCLA, USC, Arizona State and Arizona. UCLA was voted as a runner-up to win the Pac-12 Championship.

In the North Division, Oregon was selected to be the preseason Pac-12 champion, garnering 37 of the 39 first place votes by media. Oregon was followed by Stanford, Washington, Oregon State, Washington State and California.

The media has correctly selected the Pac-12 champion in 11 of the last 14 polls, according to a release by the Pac-12.
