Ansah leads Detroit to Thanksgiving win over Packers

SALT LAKE CITY — After spending time dealing with a sprained ankle, former BYU defensive lineman Ziggy Ansah is back making his presence known in the NFL.

Ansah made three tackles and two sacks in the Detroit Lions' 40-10 victory over the Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving Day.

The Lions (7-5) lead the NFC North outright with the win.

The Carolina Panthers continued their march to the playoffs, and two former Utes figured prominently in Carolina’s 27-6 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Star Lotulelei made three tackles and Steve Smith recorded three catches for 51 yards.

The Panthers (9-3) control an NFC Wild Card spot.

Other prominent performances by Utah alumni Sunday include Alex Smith, who completed 26-of-42 passes for 293 yards in a 35-328 loss to the Denver Broncos Sunday, and teammate Sean Smith, who registered five stops.

Also, Denver offensive lineman Zane Beadles made is 12th start of the season for the Broncos. He has started all but two games in his four-year NFL career.

For the Miami Dolphins, Koa Misi had three tackles and a sack, while Derrick Shelby and Paul Soliai had one tackle each in a 23-3 win over the New York Jets.

Eric Weddle made seven tackles and had an interception in the San Diego Chargers' 17-10 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

Paul Kruger made two tackles for the Cleveland Browns in a 32-28 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, while Brice McCain tallied four tackles for the Houston Texans in a 34-31 loss to the New England Patriots.

Utah State alumni Robert Turbin and Bobby Wagner are expected to play for the Seattle Seahawks when they take on the New Orleans Saints on “Monday Night Football.”

Weber State's Paul McQuistan is expected to start for Seattle’s offensive line.

Highland High's Haloti Ngata made two tackles for the Baltimore Ravens in a 22-20 win over AFC North rival Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday.

Timpview graduate Stephen Paea made a tackle for the Chicago Bears in a 23-20 overtime loss to the Minnesota Vikings Sunday, while Cottonwood High's Stanley Havili caught three passes for 29 yards for the Indianapolis Colts in a 22-14 win over the Tennessee Titans.
