At the time Melissa had been trying to self-publish a book, so she thought, why not now? Lucky Penny Publishing launched on November 1, 2011.
Lucky Penny Publishing specializes in creation and distribution of kids' picture books as eBooks. Melissa says this is a great way for new or emerging authors to have an affordable way to get their book published. They can test it with readers and later decide if traditional publishing makes sense. This is a smart business model since self-publishing has surged to over 30 percent of the eBook market. In one year alone around 450,000 books are self-published in the United States.
Lucky Penny Publishing has close to 70 products they've published for their customers so far including ebooks, audio and now print. You can find them on luckypennypress.com, iTunes and Amazon. Melissa is the owner of the company, and she has a collection of projects-based consultants who are critical for each book they publish. The concept at Lucky Penny is so popular, they've developed a group of authors and illustrators around the country who come to the team with their writing projects. Many of these books also include language translation and audio versions to reach an even wider audience.
Lucky Penny Publishing has been successful enough they've opened a second division focused on autobiographies, nonfiction and memoirs. Melissa feels fortunate to have grown up with a father who taught her a strong sense of financial responsibility, so she's built a debt-free company focused on reaching milestones, a testament to her background.
