Huntsman 140

This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

Everyone has a story. Some are triumphant stories while others involve bravery in the face of challenges. A lot of people have a story about cancer, involving someone they know, someone they love or maybe even themselves. According to the American Cancer Society, around 1.6 million new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in 2015.

In recognition of this health condition affecting so many people, the Huntsman 140 is a fundraising bike ride that benefits the Huntsman Cancer Institute. All proceeds go to cancer research. Riders can choose to ride 25, 50, 75 or the full 140 miles, whichever level works best for them. This year's race is set for June 20, and registration is still open.

Jackie is proud to have come on board two years ago, but the history of the Huntsman 140 dates back to Jeff Warren, a cancer survivor. He was so grateful for the care he received and the treatments that helped him reach remission he decided to give back. He wanted to celebrate his own life, and the lives of those who have been touched by cancer, so 13 years ago, he began riding from Reno to Utah.

The first couple times it was just his immediate family, then friends who would join in and eventually, the inspiration came to create a fund raiser. They paired with the Huntsman Foundation and started the Huntsman 140. Riders are now incentivized to collect donations, but the biggest reward is knowing they're providing funds to assist in cancer research.
