This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

Guthrie Bicycle specializes in everything involved with biking, from bike sales and service to all the gear needed for the sport. Manager Jeff Goddard and his employees are all bikers themselves so they can offer personal recommendations. They have a wide selection, from bikes for the family, all the way up to specialty bikes that can sell for upwards of $9,000 for the dedicated cyclist.

Jeff is the fifth generation in his family to be manning Guthrie Bicycle, following his father Richard Goddard, who operated the business for four decades. His great-great grandfather bought the business back in 1926. Jeff considers it a privilege to be involved with one of the oldest bike shops in the nation, located right in Salt Lake City. As a token of the company's longevity, his grandfather's bike that he rode well into his 70s hangs in the shop.

The percentage of Americans who bike to work has grown dramatically in the last few years. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, it has increased by about 60 percent since 2000, more than any other form of daily transportation. This is great news for Guthrie Bicycle in Salt Lake City.

Recreational and road race biking have been steadily increasing in popularity. Utah is also gaining a reputation as a bike-friendly state by hosting events like the Tour of Utah. Not to mention both Ogden and Park City have extensive trail systems, and most communities in Utah have bike trails. This means Guthrie Bicycle has experienced impressive growth in the last few years. They also relocated from their original shop on 2nd South in downtown Salt Lake City to the new store at 803 East 2100 South in Sugarhouse.

Jeff is a dedicated biker, which is a huge plus when working with customers at Guthrie Bicycle. He rides to work most days and has bought bikes for the rest of his family so they can enjoy the sport together. This gives him a level of personal expertise that's simply unmatched and adds to the appeal of this historic bike shop.

For Zions Bank, I'm Chris Redgrave, speaking on business.
