United Way of Salt Lake is gearing up for one of their largest events of year — the annual Day of Caring event, held this Thursday, September 11. It provides a fun and easy way for people to come together in recognition of a cause while contributing to the local community.

This year the United Way of Salt Lake is celebrating 22 years of volunteerism. Their goal is to have over 5,000 volunteers for the Day of Caring. Organizations from around the state will be participating in many different projects designed to support the community. Last year's volunteers worked together on 115 different service projects and saved the community around $800,000.

Can you imagine the impact of thousands of volunteers representing over 100 of our local companies completing around over a hundred one-day service projects? The Day of Caring is not only a big deal, it's an important day. It all starts with a gathering held at the Gateway on Thursday morning to get the volunteers pumped up for the Day of Caring service projects. You'll find media coverage with TV and radio stations, a band playing and lots of positive energy.

Under the leadership of President and CEO Deborah Bayle, United Way of Salt Lake has moved in a focused and deliberate manner. They currently work with over 40 Community Partners right in the middle of our neighborhoods. The committed team of United Way understands the need to break the cycle and provide support at ground level. Operating within 26 neighborhood centers, United Way of Salt Lake is tracking the immediate impact of this model.

In case you or your company haven't had the chance to sign up — no problem. The "Stuff the Bus" project will be held at the Gateway from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The volunteers will be stuffing 5,000 backpacks with school supplies to be delivered to low-income students from two different school districts.

Don't forget Day of Caring at the Gateway on Thursday. For more information, visit uw.org.
