This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

In a high sierra desert like Utah, one of our most valuable resources is water. And, according to the Utah Division of Water Resources, in Utah, 65 percent of water use goes to the lawn, of which they say half of that goes to waste. And if something goes wrong, the amount of water the system uses can increase even more. That's why it's critical to manage water usage so closely which is what the team at Smart Rain can do.

Their main goal at Smart Rain is to figure out what a client's water needs are then install a reliable and efficient system to manage water usage. They provide water management and consulting, so much of their daily service is remotely monitoring water systems, for both residential and commercial clients, measuring actual consumption and watching for any issues.

When cross referencing data and doing comparisons, they send a courtesy email to let the client know if they've found an issue and will make adjustments to avoid wasting water while necessary repairs are completed. Their process is so unique they've even filed a patent for the technology of how they handle it.

In looking at last year, you can see why their service is so critical. In one calendar year, Smart Rain saved 57 million gallons of water, over 52,000 fresh gallons per week. They have a counter on their website, smartrain.net, where you can see a running total of all the gallons of water they're saving on a daily basis. What that translates into is saving their clients several hundred thousand in water bills and preserving an essential resource for the state of Utah.

Smart Rain is also proud to work closely with water districts to implement a water rebate program, which involves getting rebates to help offset costs of installing their system. And while this is a Utah operation through and through and you won't find anything quite like it elsewhere in the U.S., they're working on scaling the model with other states, including Arizona and California.

For Zions Bank, I'm Chris Redgrave, speaking on business.
