With a military background, both Mike Hawkins and Mike Eliason, who goes by Eli, know what it's like to be taken care of. Mike's wife, an RN, would come home and express her frustrations from her place of work. His experience was that she was not being taken care of. Having grown up in the military where if you're not taking care of your people that's a foul, Mike and Eli have a common attitude to do good for others. So they were inspired to go into business together and opened Utah's first location of Interim Healthcare.
An expert Google searcher, Mike really did his research on who he wanted to go into business with. He discovered Interim Healthcare is not only the oldest home care operation in the U.S., founded in 1966, but they also have a slow-growth model to help their franchisees develop. This gave these two military vets exactly the opportunity they were searching for, as a change from their military career.
Interim Healthcare sends certified nursing aids into people's homes to help with any activities of daily living they need assistance with. Hourly billing gives families the flexibility of deciding what level of care they need for their loved ones. In fact, one of their clients is an elderly father living with his son, and all he needs is a staff member who comes over five days a week to spend time with dad while his son is working.
Mike also says it's an opportunity to head problems off before they become a major issue, and it offers caregivers some relief. There's a range of pricing at Interim Healthcare based on what level of care is needed. One of their major pushes is for more insurance coverage for these types of services and another is to provide care for veteran patients.
Mike and Eli purchased the rights for Salt Lake County with the option to expand Interim Healthcare into other counties as the business grows. They're already at six care providers and plan to expand that exponentially within a year.
