Sometimes our childhood has such a profound effect upon us it can actually shape what we do as a career. And for Ryan Hyde of RPH Engineering, growing up on a farm in Wyoming, his childhood did just that. His dad had a welder and wrenches, and that's where Ryan learned to fix bikes and build hot rods which developed his creative, mechanical brain. He became a long-time dreamer and natural problem solver.
It was only four years ago that he decided to go into business for himself. And now, 20 employees later, RPH Engineering is on a roll. Things people can't seem to get done or equipment no one can repair, they bring here, and Ryan's team solves the issue. Referrals have been a critical source of new business for this Lehi company.
Before starting RPH Engineering, Ryan was part of a company that created the first barcode scanners in hospitals. He also spent several years designing and building the aerodynamics of roller coasters. He also built power plants and even got to help put a fused silica disk on the Mars Rover. His resume also includes working closely with Show Media to design the digital and GPS applications that download instant messages to cabs in Las Vegas.
At RPH Engineering with Ryan's natural problem-solving brain, he saw the concern of school shootings and thought, We have to do something to start keeping children safe. So, he and his team designed The Gun Box because kids find guns and accidents do happen.
