This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.

Mark Maryboy, of Maryboy Management Group with Native American Business, understands the importance of conservation, especially water conservation. As part of a water master study, he says it's going to take money, education and knowledge for us to improve our water management. Not to mention, water is necessary to develop business and a community.

Mark's understanding of this runs deep because he's spent a lot of time in Washington, D.C., and in Salt Lake City advocating for various business ventures. This also includes contributing 16 years on the Navajo Nation Council for Utah. After he retired, he went to work as an assistant school superintendent but quickly realized he wanted to do more.

He established an energy company last year based on his experience as a consultant for hospitals, roads and water projects, not to mention oil and gas. Maryboy Energy is intended to work especially with the Navajo Nation and other tribes on oil and gas exploration. They're also in the process of creating a natural conservation area involving wilderness, a state land exchange and economic development.

Mark has experience as a lobbyist in Washington, sometimes for individuals, sometimes for organizations, but always focused on helping businesses, especially in developing marketing plans. As Mark likes to say, he's always in his lab working. He even wrote a book last year. This is the experience he brings to Maryboy Management Group.

Currently, he wants to scale his business and is growing it from the ground up. Maryboy Energy is also looking at other forms of energy like wind and solar and is working with coal companies. With his role in the Navajo Nation leadership, he's also looking at businesses that are already operating to find more opportunities for other Navajos to be involved.

Mark Maryboy, with his Navajo background, understands that being dependent upon government is not a good thing. And he sees communities with American Indian citizens interested in sustainable economic development and jobs for people. This is a vision he's working to accomplish with Maryboy Management Group and other companies he's involved with.

For Zions Bank, I'm Chris Redgrave, speaking on business.
