One of the ways The Boyer Company has made it through the tough economic climate of the last four years has been diversification. They have five different divisions including retail, residential, office, government and industrial. As you can imagine, this approach has been critical in helping them stay competitive and not be as affected by the downturn.
Jake Boyer is now leading The Boyer Company into the second generation of family ownership as the president and CEO. His father, Roger, is still involved as chair of the board. Jake has been working side-by-side with his dad for 20 years now, and he says this has made the transition into the second generation nearly seamless. He understands how his dad thinks and makes decisions just like him. In many analysis situations they come out identical in their conclusions.
The Boyer Company is one of the largest full-service real estate development firms in the Western United States. Over their 41-year history, they've developed around 250 properties in 20 states. They have over 30 projects totaling $550 million in development in progress. Since 1972, they've developed over 30 million square feet of commercial space and now own and manage about half of that space.
The Boyer Company has grown to include 150 employees. They're also unique because they've elected to not do construction work in addition to development, so they don't do their own architectural and contracting work. When they go into new markets, they will seek out the expertise in that market, and hired them so they support the local economy.
Community support and involvement is another important focus for The Boyer Company. Jake sits on numerous boards and is carrying on his father's legacy.
