Ron decided to get into the human resources business six years ago when he bought his first Spherion franchise in Orem. Now, six franchises later, he has 14 full-time employees; however, he influences, recruits and places thousands of people every year.
Spherion has three main areas of focus: direct hire, which are professional placements; project placement where they provide contract workers for specific jobs; and temp to hire. Temp to hire is an important area because the whole purpose is do they fit? A trend happening right now is that people are bringing in temps to make sure they fit before hiring them permanently. They can also help employees repurpose themselves to change from one industry to another.
The Spherion name has been around for 25 years, but Ron has been a franchise owner for just six years. He bought the Utah Valley office first and under his leadership, it prospered so much that a year later he was invited to buy the Salt Lake office. A few years later he bought a second office in the Salt Lake Valley, and last year, he opened in Ogden. The nice thing about Spherion is that as a franchise, Ron has connections to large national companies, but he's the decision maker, so he has local control.
The Spherion model makes sense because every successful company will use some version of their services. It's like outsourcing your HR recruiting, an essential part of growing any company. The Spherion team has developed important partnerships with organizations like the Department of Workforce Services, LDS Employment Services, chambers of commerce and several colleges and universities.
