In Utah, growing small business is critical to our economy. Small business creates jobs, builds tax revenue and can fulfill Utah's entrepreneurial spirit. Programs like the Grow America Springboard Competition that is underway in Utah are designed to launch more small businesses in three different categories plus give one million dollars in cash awards and resources.
The competition has three areas of focus. First is the Idea Category, where you have a great idea but haven't flushed it out; however, you're looking for money to start the process.
The second is the Start-Up Category where you have the idea, some clients and understand what resources it will take, so you're looking for investors. And third is the Ramp-Up Category where your business is underway so you may be breaking even or making some money. In other words, you've nailed it and next you need an infusion of money to scale it.
For the Grow America Springboard Competition, you have to be 18, live in Utah or have your business located here and be able to attend the events in person. Community partners are supporting Grow America with the idea of creating jobs for our economy and community.
With Grow America Springboard Competition, they have invited a panel of experts to help judge the business ideas being presented. These panelists are people who have started and successfully grown their own business. The panel is also comprised of angel investors and venture capitalists who understand what they're looking for when it comes to investing in an idea. Just being involved with the process of Grow America Springboard will assist you in developing your professional network and maybe attracting mentors.
