OGDEN — Herriman rallied from a 13 point deficit to defeat Highland 44-42 in the first round of the 4A state tournament.

Highland led 42-40 with 12.7 seconds left in the game but Herriman had possession. Z Arima inbounded the ball to Tueni Lupeamanu who tied the game at 42 with a 10-foot jumper.

Arima then stole Highland's inbounds pass and was fouled while driving to the hoop for a layup. He stepped to the line with four seconds left and made both free throws giving Herriman their first lead since early in the 1st quarter.

Highland had time for one last shot but Henry Morris' 3-point attempt bouced off the rim and the Mustangs celebrated the win.

Herriman won a thriller in last year's state tournament. Jaden Rasmussen made a 3-pointer at the buzzer giving the Mustangs an upset win over Logan.

Herriman was led in scoring by David Maynard who had 11. David Divver led the Rams with 14.

Herriman will play Mountain Crest in Thursday's 4A quarterfinals at 2:30 p.m.
