Girls basketball: Springville completes perfect season with state championship

TAYLORSVILLE — Malia Nawahine scored 18 points and pulled down 9 rebounds leading Springville to a 54-40 over Timpview to claim the 4A girls state basketball championship.

The Red Devils finished the season undefeated with a 25-0 record.

Springville's Brooke Wheeler also had a big game with 10 points and 10 rebounds and Savannah Park contributed 12 points and four steals.

Springville only led by three points at halftime but would dominate the 3rd quarter outscoring Timpview 20-6.

Nawahine, who is committed to Utah, was named the tournament MVP by the Deseret News.

Timpview was led in scoring by Lauryn Dela Cruz and Lyndie Haddock who both had 14 points.
