Getting Set for the "Crossover"
October 28th, 2009 @ 12:03pm

We're about to move from October into November, and tonight's "Cougar Tipoff" at the Marriott Center ushers in the annual "busiest month of the year" for me--in a very, very good way.

*******

In the month of November, we'll have seven BYU Basketball games (two of them exhibition affairs), and four BYU Football games, not to mention a final month's worth of Bronco Mendenhall Shows and Press Conferences, along with numerous football and basketball practices and other media opportunities. It's one of the best months of the year to be a Cougar fan, and for me personally. I hope you all enjoy it.

*******

Tonight, I'll be courtside at the Marriott Center for the Cougar hoopsters' intra-squad scrimmage--an event that freshman Tyler Haws will miss with a knee injury that has kept him on the sidelines almost since practices got underway. Everyone else is a "go" for tonight.

The Haws injury is expected to be short-term in nature, but the sooner he gets back, the better. BYU is a deep team, but without Haws in the mix, the Cougars are minus their best-conditioned player--an "energy guy" and skilled basket-maker who makes the team that much better. When he comes back, he will have a significant impact on this year's team.

Look for a lot of different personnel combinations tonight, as the coaches assess how certain players do come "showtime." Also, observe what kind of production BYU gets from the post position tonight, as those inside roles take early shape.

I anticipate having some post-game interviews posted on "Cougar Tracks" either late tonight or early tomorrow--check back then.

With the football bye week upon us, I'm heading out of town Thursday, but I'll be back in time to start Wyoming week, beginning with next Monday's weekly football press conference.

*******

With the weather having turned, and reminding myself of my bowl-related writings of Monday, I once again realize that a potential trip to San Diego in late December wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing.
