A day after announcing a 2015 game at Michigan, BYU on Wednesday confirmed a two-game, home-and-home series with the University of Virginia, with the games scheduled for 2013 and 2014.

BYU will open next season in Charlottesville, with the Cougars and Cavaliers meeting on August 31, 2013. The two sides will then play in Provo on Sept. 20, 2014.

In press releases issued by the respective schools, administrators pronounced themselves pleased with the new agreement.

"I really like this series with Virginia," said BYU director of athletics Tom Holmoe. "It's been more than a decade since we played at Virginia. It should be a great game for BYU fans in that part of the country and will provide a unique travel experience for both teams."

"We feel fortunate that we were able to schedule a series with BYU, a school with a strong football tradition, on such short notice," Virginia Executive Associate Director of Athletics Oliver said. "Historically the games have been very competitive and we look forward to opening the season against them in 2013 in Scott Stadium."

The Cavaliers had an opening in their 2013 schedule with the ACC's recent decision to go from a nine-game to an eight-game conference slate.

BYU and Virginia have met three times previously; BYU lost to UVa in the 1987 All-American Bowl and in Provo during the 1999 season. BYU's lone win came at Virginia in 2000, and until a victory at Georgia Tech a week and a half ago, represented the Cougars' last win in the Eastern time zone.

With Virginia now on the 2013 schedule, BYU has 11 games either announced, contracted or otherwise anticipated for next season.

Home: Texas (Sept.7), Boise State (Sept. 21), Georgia Tech (Oct. 12), Middle Tennessee State (TBA), Utah (TBA)

Away: Virginia (Aug. 31), Utah State (Oct. 4), Houston (Oct. 19), Wisconsin (Nov. 9), Notre Dame (Nov. 23), Hawaii (Dec. 7)

With only five home games on the 2013 schedule, the school will certainly schedule at least one more contest at LaVell Edwards Stadium. By playing at Hawaii, BYU has the option of scheduling 13 games, which would present the opportunity for a seventh home date.

With today's news, BYU now has future football games set up with:

Notre Dame, Texas, Nebraska, Michigan, Wisconsin, W. Virginia, Virginia, Georgia Tech, Cincinnati, Boise State, Utah, Southern Miss, USU, Houston, Hawaii, Middle Tennessee St., East Carolina, and Central Florida.
