Thieves find new way to steal: Apple Pay

SALT LAKE CITY — Thieves have found a way to use the Apple Pay system to make purchases with stolen credit card information, without having to show ID or write out a signature.

The iPhone and Apple Pay system have not been hacked. Instead, thieves can enter stolen information into any iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 plus in their possession. At that point they simply use the phone to make their purchases.

KSL’s Bill Gephardt tells Utah’s Morning News consumers have to look out for themselves. Gephardt says using a credit card does have advantages over a debit card, because if your information is stolen, credit card companies have more protections so you won’t have to pay the charges. But the bottom line is, thieves are always looking for new ways to get your money.
