SALT LAKE CITY — A Utah senate committee will debate a measure to legalize marijuana for medical use Thursday, with personal experience from a state senator.
Sen. Mark Madsen, R-Saratoga Springs, detailed his trip to Colorado to try medical marijuana on KSL's Nightside Project. A longtime sufferer of back pain, he says he had his doctor's instruction and supervision.
"From personal experience, it was very efficacious," Madsen said on KSL, saying he believes it's time to push past emotions and propaganda and give the issue a serious look.
He also discussed the trip beforehand with his religious leaders to make sure he would not be compromising his own beliefs.
"It was definitely a unique experience. I had those concerns and considerations, and I tried to deal with them the best I could. I had my wife with me, and I talked to my ecclesiastical leader beforehand," Madsen said.
