NEW YORK CITY — Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wisconsin, says he's got a clear plan to help his party win the midterm elections in November and the next presidential election as well.

In a new interview with Utah's Morning News, Ryan says Republicans need to show they can fix the country’s problems and they have realistic solutions.

“I think the President’s policies and his governing philosophy are heading us in the wrong direction. Our problems are very real, they’re very urgent but they are not insurmountable,“ said Ryan.

He says there needs to be a very clear choice between the candidates in the next presidential election, and there needs to be a conservative movement that is inclusive and capable of winning national elections. He says Republicans need to take their message to people who haven’t typically heard it.

Looking back at the election in 2012, Ryan says he and Mitt Romney were campaigning against big government 'in theory.'

“It was basically the President’s word against our word.”

He says the government programs passed by the President had their implementations delayed until 2013, and 2014 after the election. Ryan says this election, people can see what big government looks like, and conclude the results don’t look anything like what the President used to sell those programs.

Ryan says Utah is a fantastic example of a community where people know opportunity. He also added Utah has the best snow.

Ryan is out with a new book titled “The Way Forward.”
