(From Roger)

Hi Dan I observed 14 lights last night in the area east of Sugarhouse last night at 9:30 PM - did you hear anything about it. The lights were very uniform in appearance and were a very bright orange and very large, they had a design in the center of each lights that was lighted also. After several minutes they separated two by two and climbed higher in to the north sky until , two by two, they blinked out. I was wondering if someone was setting off balloons of some type that were illuminated. Not to be facetious but could you shed any light on this phenomena? My wife and I and my son observed the lights.

Roger,

There is a club that flies "UFO" like aircraft out of Salt Lake City. On Sunday night, John Hollenhorst did a story about these unidentified lights of the night.

Also, I saw a national story (how on one night) three of these aircraft crashed into each other; and one crashed while trying to land on the ground. They are flying at night, so they do have trouble finding their flight paths. It really messes with people too.

If you google "model UFO" or "night model flying", I think you will find places that are selling these really odd shaped model UFO's. They are made with different kinds of colored lights and flashing lights; and all kinds of things that seem to mimic what people on the ground might think a UFO might look like. Some are triangular and some even have trailing parts to make it look as if there is something really odd going on. These people are having a lot of fun trying to fly at night, but I think they are having more fun messing with people, and even trying to scare them a little too.

Now that you know, there is nothing to be afraid of. Maybe you would like to buy one and fly it yourself?

Here are a couple of links you can follow to get an idea of what I'm talking about here:
