Jazz throw monkey off their back into River Walk
November 19th, 2009 @ 9:52pm
By Robert Jackson, KSL.com sports writer

SAN ANTONIO -- Feb. 28, 1999 is no longer the last date the Jazz were able to pull out a victory in San Antonio.

After 20 straight road losses to the Spurs, the Jazz (6-6) took the monkey off their back and threw it into the River Walk with a 90-83 win over San Antonio.

The previous win came ten years, eight months and 22 days ago. Gas prices were $0.95 per gallon (who wouldn't like to see that again) and the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed above 10,000 for the first time ever (March 29, 1999).

Game Recap: Jazz 90, Spurs 83
Deron Williams scored 21 points and the Utah Jazz finally ended their decade-long misery in San Antonio with a 90-83 win over the Spurs on Thursday night.

Ten years and eight months later, the Dow recently returned above 10,000 and the Jazz finally won again in San Antonio.

"We made all the stops we needed to, something we usually haven't been able to do down here," Jazz guard Deron Williams said in his post game interview.

After a slow start to the season, the Jazz have bounced back to win four of their last six games.

"At some point in the season you grow from a group of guys into a team. That's what happened on our last road trip."

"At some point in the season you grow from a group of guys into a team," Jazz forward Carlos Boozer said. "That's what happened on our last road trip."

And play as a team they did, offensively combining for 26 assists and defensively holding the Spurs to only 20% shooting from three point range (43% from the field).

The Spurs (4-6) were playing without Tony Parker or Manu Ginobili.
