Okur will play tonight against Rockets
November 2nd, 2009 @ 12:16pm
By Jeremiah Jensen, KSL Sports

After missing Friday's game against the Clippers with injuries to his ankle and knee suffered in the season opener against Denver, Mehmet Okur announced at this morning's shootaround that he will play tonight against Houston.

"It could have been worse and I feel lucky," Memo said after shootaround.

He also said that there is still a little bit of pain and he will wear a brace to help protect his knee.

"I don't like it (the brace) but it is what it is so I've gotta play with it"

Tonight's game against Houston is the first of three games in four nights. The Jazz will play in Dallas Tuesday night and then host the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday. This is a very important week for this team so early in the season.

"It is," said Deron Williams after this morning's shootaround. "especially because we really haven't played how we want to the first couple games. This one tonight is a big one and we'll see how we do on the second night of a back-to-back. The last couple years that has been a problem for us."

Houston doesn't have Yao Ming or Tracy McGrady who are out with injuries and Ron Artest is now a Los Angeles Laker. Yet the Rockets still remain competitive and have the respect of teams around the league including the Jazz.

"They're kinda like us," Deron said. "They're always gonna have a good system, they have players who play hard, and they are a good defensive team, so they are always gonna be able to hang in ball games and stay in it."
