SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The CEO of the company that owns the Utah Jazz is stepping down.
Greg Miller announced Monday that he is giving up his title of CEO of the Larry H. Miller Group of companies. The company will go through a corporate restructuring that includes the construction of a board of directors that will replace the CEO position and report to owner Gail Miller.
"This is the right move for me personally, for my family and for the business," Greg Miller said in a statement. "It has been a privilege to fill the role of CEO and to be a steward of this outstanding organization that my parents sacrificed so much to create and develop."
Group President Clark Whitworth takes over Greg Miller's responsibilities. He served as CEO for seven years.
Spokeswoman Linda Luchetti said the Jazz will not be affected and nothing is changing in the day-to-day operation of the business.
"The management changes are to ensure that the LHM group remains privately owned," Luchetti said, "and that the company, including the Jazz, stays intact for future generations."
President of Miller Sports Properties Steve Miller will also step down from his role. Current CEO Jim Olson has taken over those responsibilities on an interim basis.
"I can reassure fans that the Jazz are conducting business as usual and that the changes are designed to keep the LHM Group, including the Utah Jazz, intact as a community asset for future generations," Jazz President Randy Rigby said in a statement. "We are grateful to Greg for his many contributions in supporting the Jazz, and look forward to him continuing to serve as our Governor on the NBA Board and as an active member of several NBA executive committees.
"As owners, the Miller family still runs the Jazz and remains engaged and committed to building a championship-caliber team."
