SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- BYU center Trent Plaisted was selected in the second round of the NBA draft.

Seattle took Plaisted with the 46th overall pick, but he is not headed for the SuperSonics. Plaisted's rights instead were to go to the Detroit Pistons to complete an earlier trade that sent forward D.J. White to Seattle. The Sonics gave the Pistons the rights to forward Walter Sharpe and Plaisted in the deal, which still needs to be approved by the NBA.

Plaisted had one season of eligibility left, but decided to go professional instead of returning to the Cougars.

He averaged 15.6 points and 7.7 rebounds as a junior.
