YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) — Youngstown State named Jerrod Calhoun as its new coach following his successful run in Division II.
Calhoun took Fairmont State to the Division II title game this season. The Falcons lost to Northwest Missouri State 71-61 in the final.
He had a 124-38 record at the West Virginia school, which won at least 20 games in each of his five seasons. Calhoun has also worked on Bob Huggins' staff at West Virginia.
Youngstown State athletic director Ron Strollo says Calhoun has a successful track record, experience with a major Division I program, regional recruiting ties and passion for the school.
The Mideast Conference coach of the year, Calhoun led Fairmont State to a 34-3 record and first conference championship in 21 years.
Calhoun spent four years as West Virginia's director of basketball operations before working as an assistant for Huggins, who gave him his coaching start as a graduate assistant with Cincinnati in 2004.
