WASHINGTON (AP) — Matt Husek scored 20 points on 8-for-9 shooting — including 4 of 5 3-pointers — and Robert Champion scored 16, including his 1,000th career point, and Holy Cross beat American U 69-54 on Sunday.
Jehyve Floyd's layup capped the Crusaders' 9-0 opening run, and Husek put Holy Cross up for good (11-9) with a layup en route to a 28-21 halftime lead.
The Eagles closed to 40-37 on Delante Jones' 3-pointer at 12:47 in the second half, and to 47-44 on Sa'eed Nelson's layup with 8:09 left. Anthony Thompson's 3 capped a 12-0 run in which Champion scored his 1,000th point on a tip-in for a 59-44 lead and the Crusaders were never threatened the rest of the way.
Karl Charles dished six assists for Holy Cross (14-15, 8-8 Patriot League), which shot 51.1 percent from the floor to the Eagles' 40.4 percent
Jones and Nelson scored 16 apiece for the Eagles (6-21, 3-13) who have lost two straight.
