SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Jared Brownridge hit a long, step-back 3-pointer with 2.7 seconds remaining to give Santa Clara a 64-63 win over Loyola Marymount on Saturday.
Brownridge's game-winner was the first field goal for the Broncos since the 6:47 mark when they led 58-53. A 3-pointer by LMU's Brandon Brown with 1½ minutes left gave the Lions their first lead in over 13 minutes and he made 1 of 2 free throws with 23 seconds left to go up 63-61. After Brownridge's 3-pointer, the Lions threw the ball away, their 14th turnover of the second half.
Brownridge finished with 25 points, making 5 of 13 3-pointers and 8 of 17 overall for Santa Clara (11-10, 5-3), which led 36-35 at halftime. Matt Hauser added 10 points.
Bueay Tauch scored 13 points, Brown 12 and Shamar Johnson 10 for the Lions (9-10, 2-6).
LMU won the teams' first meeting this season, 66-56 on Jan. 7.
