NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Jordan Butler had 13 points, nine rebounds and a career high-tying seven blocks, helping Norfolk State to a school-record 17 blocks and a 79-73 win over Morgan State on Saturday night.
Alex Long had 12 points and four blocks, and Preston Bungei added three blocks for Norfolk State (13-13, 9-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), whose previous record for blocks was 13.
The Spartans led by 13 at intermission and maintained a comfortable lead for the entirety of the second half. The closest that Morgan State came was Phillip Carr's 3-pointer with 29 seconds left to pull the Bears within five at 78-73.
The Bears were unable to force a turnover, and Norfolk State's Jeff Short made one of two free throws to set the final score.
Morgan State (5-18, 3-7) lost despite a banner night from Cedric Blossom, who set career marks with 28 points and 15 rebounds, including six offensive.
