NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) — Nico Clareth scored 20 points, Brett Bisping had 19 points, 13 rebounds and five assists, and Siena came back from 12 down in the second half to top Iona 81-78 on Saturday.
A.J. English had 34 points for Iona (14-10, 11-4 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) but missed a deep 3-point attempt as time expired, ending the Gaels' four-game winning streak.
Trailing 63-51 with 11:27 left, Siena (18-9, 11-5) used an 11-0 run to get within one and eventually led 77-70 on Clareth's long 2-pointer with 2:17 remaining.
But Iona's pressure defense forced three-straight Saints turnovers, and four free throws from A.J. English and an Ibn Muhammad layup made it a one-point game.
Bisping hit 1 of 2 at the free-throw line to make it 78-76 Saints with 22 seconds left. English attacked the rim on the ensuing trip down but was unable to convert on a potential game-tying layup.
