Mount St. Mary's beats American 81-56 for first win

EMMITSBURG, Md. (AP) — Taylor Danaher matched his career high with 19 points and Mount St. Mary's picked up its first win, beating American 81-56 on Tuesday night.

Danaher was 7-of-7 shooting. BK Ashe scored 13 points and Gregory Graves had 10 for the Mountaineers (1-6), who made 32 of 56 shots for 57.1 percent and 7 of 16 from 3-point range for 43.8 percent. They were also able to take advantage of 23 American turnovers, 12 coming on steals.

The Mountaineers led by six at halftime, 35-29. They scored the first 10 points of the second half as part of a 16-1 run that left them ahead 51-30. They would lead by as many as 28.

Paris Maragkos and Alex Paquin scored 13 points apiece for the Eagles (1-5) with James Washington adding 11.

The Mountaineers' victory came in their home opener. Four of their losses came against Maryland, Gonzaga, Ohio State and Washington.
