Smith leads No. 13 Stanford women past Dayton 74-66

ESTERO, Fla. (AP) — Alanna Smith made six of her eight 3-point attempts for 22 points, Lili Thompson added 19 and Stanford overcame a slow start to defeat Dayton 74-66 on Saturday in the Gulf Coast Showcase.

Smith, a freshman from Australia, entered the game 2 of 9 from behind the arc. Erica McCall added 16 points for the Cardinal (5-1), who made 11 of 24 treys.

Jenna Burdette had 13 points, Kelley Austria 12 and Amber Deane 11 for the Flyers (4-1), who led 40-33 at halftime but shot just 33 percent in the second half when they had nine turnovers.

Burdette had all 12 of her points at halftime and the Flyers built a 12-point lead early in the second quarter. Stanford had 11 turnovers in the first half, good for 14 Dayton points.

Stanford opened the third an 18-5 run before Dayton recovered to lead 54-53 entering the fourth quarter.
