Texas State holds off McNeese State 70-67

LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) — Kavin Gilder-Tilbury had 17 points and Emani Gant had 13 and grabbed 15 rebounds as Texas State held off McNeese State for a 70-67 win on Saturday.

Ojai Black added 14 points and Ethan Montalvo had 11 for Texas State (2-1).

Trailing 67-55 with 40 seconds left, McNeese State made a late run as Jamaya Burr hit three straight 3-pointers to close to 70-67.

Burr made 5 of 7 from long range, hitting four in the second half, for 23 points to lead McNeese State (1-4). Jarren Greenwood chipped in 13 and had three steals.

Texas State was up 30-24 at the break. The Cowboys charged back to go ahead 37-35 when Burr and Tevin Jackson nailed back-to-back treys with 15:29 left in the game. Black hit a jumper, Kendell Ramlal had a layup and Gilder-Tilbury scored eight points as the Bobcats took a 53-41 lead with 7:23 remaining.
