LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury says fans will learn if sophomore Patrick Mahomes or junior Davis Webb will start at quarterback when one of them jogs out to take the first snap against Sam Houston State on Saturday.

Kingsbury said the starter for the program's 1,000th game against Sam Houston State, a Football Championship Subdivision team that shared the Southland Conference title last season, is the one who's best for the team now.

The Red Raiders are looking for a win to start a possible rebound from last season when they finished 4-8.

Bearkats coach K.C. Keeler says he'll also wait to say if it'll be junior Jared Johnson, last season's starter, or sophomore Jeremiah Briscoe, a transfer for UAB, at quarterback. They finished 11-5 last season.
