DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Bubby Riley hit a grand slam and North Carolina State scored eight runs in the eighth inning for a 10-2 victory over Virginia on Saturday night in the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament.
The sixth-seeded Wolfpack (34-20) had already clinched a spot opposite fourth-seeded Florida State in Sunday's championship game before they beat the seventh-seeded Cavaliers (34-22) to complete a 3-0 sweep through pool play.
Riley finished with five RBIs, and his homer highlighted the Wolfpack's big inning.
Andrew Knizner broke a 2-all tie with a two-run double in the eighth and, after an intentional walk to Preston Palmeiro, he came around to score on Joe Dunand's double. Ryne Willard was intentionally walked and Riley followed with his drive to right-center to make it 9-2.
Riley also had an RBI groundout and Chance Shepard had a run-scoring flyout in the second.
Matt Thaiss and Robbie Coman drove in Virginia's runs.
