I just saw on ESPN a shocking even from the game between BYU and New Mexico Women's Soccer today. The punch in the back and the pony tail take down by the New Mexico player are both assaults and I hope that the culprit is punished to the full extent of the law.
@John Ledkins - I agree she should be punished for her actions, but BYU's not completely innocent on this. It looked to me like the BYU girls knew she would retaliate if they got under her skin.(I watched it in slowmo on DVR a few times) On the ponytail takedown the BYU player was grabbing and was holding her jersey until she was thrown to the ground. And you could see she was jabbed in the ribs (or bewb) by the BYU player right before she punched her in the back.

I don't mind if you vote disagree, just tell me why.
I agree that New Mexico Woman's Soccer should be reprimanded for their poor sportsmanship. I hate to see sports becoming so hateful and nasty. Shame on the players who acted like little spoiled babies.
I saw the video on youtube. Lambert was practically leaning on the BYU player, who pushed her off her back with an elbow. I saw nothing that warrented a punch to the back. And let's not talk about kicking the ball into the face of a down BYU player, or the immense overreaction with the ponytail tackle. Lambert should be suspended and the NM team needs to be punished in some way for the extreme unsportsmanlike conduct in this game. I, too, have played soccer, and some contact is a necessary part of the game, but this was battery (not assault), pure and simple.

Go Cougs.

FWIW earlier this afternoon, New Mexico suspended her indefinitely.
