Day 5
Austin, Texas to Austin, Texas
Miles travelled - Basically none. It was wonderful

Austin — It's finally game day. Thank goodness, it's finally game day.

We pulled up to Darrell K. Royal Memorial Stadium around 11:30 Texas time. Just about seven hours before kick off. Yes, our game day's kick off early.

When we got here the first thing we noticed was how hot and humid it was. We then tried to take in how incredible the tradition and history is here, but we were too covered in sweat to care. That's gross and not true. There's an energy here that really needs to be experienced to fully appreciate.

Dave, Alex and Jason did their live broadcast of Cougar Sports Saturday and had Fox Sports commentator and former Oregon and NFL quarterback Joey Harrington. Harrington chatted about the match-up between the Cougars and Longhorns and mentioned that he thinks Taysom Hill is one of the best QB's in college football. Not a bad compliment.

Now, we're sitting in our seats waiting for the game to start and eager to have our questions answered concerning this big game.

We're going to sign off for now, but we'll have loads of great content up directly after the game for you to either reminisce about a great win or slowly sink further into a sports-depression. Either way you'll want to read.

Day 4
Arlington, Texas to Austin, Texas
Miles travelled - 200
Total miles travelled - 1,418

AUSTIN — We've finally made it, we're in Austin. It's been over 1,400 miles and about 30 hours in the RV — we made some detours — but it was fun along the way.

Some people have been asking why we went to Dallas instead of just going straight to Austin. Well, there's a great explanation for that and it's two words, Jerry's — world.

We woke up in the Wal-Mart parking lot in the shadow of AT&T Stadium and had to take a tour.

While we weren't incredibly impressed with our tour guide — bless his heart he tried with those jokes — the stadium is absolutely amazing. Truly it's hard to describe the immensity of that place. I've posted pictures of stadium that include the locker room, the owner's perch, the suites and of course the 50-yard screen. It's honestly breathtaking.

From there we headed for Austin and a three-hour drive turned into about five, thanks to traffic, but thankfully we finally made it. We set up shop in the hotel and decided to do the only thing there is to do on a Friday night in Texas. We went to a high school football game.

We checked out the game at Westlake High School as they took on Temple High School in what turned out to be a shootout. The game was fun to watch, but we were all floored by the size of the stadium that holds 11,000. That's right, a high school stadium holds 11,000 and most of the seats were filled.

Texas High School football is the real deal.

After that we grabbed some grub and headed back to the hotel for the night. Don't worry, we haven't abandoned the RV, it's just in the parking lot. We've still got to get to the game and back to Dallas on Sunday. Yeah, we still have some driving ahead of us.

We also stopped off at a restaurant in Dallas earlier and may have fibbed and told them it was Jason's birthday. It was worth it. I've attached the video for your viewing pleasure.

The trip has been an adventure, but the whole reason we're out here is for the game and it's finally game day. We want to hear your predictions for the game. Let us know what you think is going to happen using the hashtag #CSSRV2TEX.

Day 3
Albuquerque, N.M. to Fort Worth, Texas
Miles travelled - 620
Total miles travelled - 1,218

FORT WORTH, Texas — It was a busy day that constituted of driving, driving, eating, driving, daydreaming and driving. That's actually not true, there was a lot more driving.

In a bizarre twist — we desperately need a sarcasm font — we got out of Albuquerque late. While we'd like to blame it on the fact that we were working hard getting great content for all of you, the truth is we wanted to get another game of HORSE in on the Christiansen's fantastic indoor court.

We hit the road and headed for Texas. On the way we listened to a wide range of music that varied from classic ballads like "Dreams" by Fleetwood Mac to guilty pleasures like "Girl I'm Gonna Miss You" by MIlli Vanilli to bands no one's heard of like Biffy Clyro. That honestly got us all the way to Amarillo, Texas.

In Amarillo we stopped at the famous Big Texan Steakhouse for some grub. The Big Texan is known for their 72 oz. steak that is on the house if you can finish it in under an hour. All of us were too chicken to try the challenge so we just ate and we found out that without the thrill of competition — and a possible coronary — the Big Texan is just a mediocre steakhouse.

After the pit stop we hit the road again for another five-hour haul into Fort Worth. Of course we had to get lost in the Dallas area before finding the Wal-Mart directly across the street from AT&T Stadium where the Cowboys play.

We have now set up shop in the parking lot at 2 a.m. and we're ready for bed. My word am I ready for bed.

Tomorrow will be a packed day with a possible tour of the Cowboy's stadium, another long drive to Austin, and possibly a high school football game. These are all lofty goals, so we'll see what actually gets done. But as of now, we think we'll pull all of this off.

We posted a time-lapse video of one of our drives and Twitter user Luke Allen not only figured out that it was our drive into Albuquerque, but he even recognized that we missed our exit, had to get off at another one, flip around and get back on the freeway. Well played, Luke. We've got a little prize for you. Send me an email and we'll get you squared away.

Day 2
Cortez, Colo. to Albuquerque, N.M.
Miles travelled - 250
Total miles traveled - 598

ALBUQUERQUE — Yes, it's true, we didn't travel that far distance wise, but it was an amazing day.

We started out the day in Cortez, Colorado as we woke up under the warming glow of the Wal-Mart sign as we idled in the parking lot. We started out of Cortez when we found Jimmer's BBQ on Main Street. We were confused as to why the great Jimmer decided to settle down in Cortez and open up a BBQ place, but we were in.

When we got up to the restaurant we didn't find the New Orleans Pelicans point guard, but rather Jim "Jimmer" the BBQ king.

Jimmer and his family were nice enough to invite us into their restaurant and fed us some of their amazing grub. If you're ever headed through Cortez make sure to stop for some brisket and smoked turkey. Thanks, Jimmer and family.

From there we hit the road and headed for Albuquerque. We made it into the city and "Breaking Bad" references started immediately. We even found a candy shop that's dedicated to the show. We got some pictures don't worry.

From there we headed out to Steve and Jen Christiansen's home, also known as the Little Marriott Center. Steve is the president of the New Mexico chapter of the Cougar Club and he put our fandom to shame. Well, maybe not Jason's.

Anyway, the Christiansen's have been incredibly hospitable and offered up their home for four stinky dudes to stay in while we're in Albuquerque. As soon as we got here we got the tour that included BYU bedrooms; a custom made BYU weight room; a memorabilia room that had BYU helmets, signed jerseys and footballs. The tour finished at the crown jewel of the Casa de la Christiansen: the indoor basketball court with a custom BYU logo painted onto the hardwood.

We shot around a bit and apparently none of us are that great at basketball, but it was fun, regardless.

The trip was already a great experience, but the kindness of the Christiansen's just sent this trip into overdrive.

We want to give them a big thank you for all their hospitality and the guesthouse — it was a bit roomier than the RV. Thanks again, Christiansen's.

We're now on our way to the Big Texan in Amarillo and then onto Dallas; wish us luck.

We also have a little challenge for all of you. We have attached a time-lapse video of us on the road. If you can tell us where we are in the video on Twitter with the hashtag #CSSRV2TEX then we'll hook you up with a Jimmer's BBQ shirt. Yeah, we love you that much.

Day 1
Salt Lake City, Utah to Cortez, Colo.
Miles travelled - 348

CORTEZ, Colo. — Day one of the third annual RV trip is underway, and as has become tradition, we got out way too late and had to make up time.

The crew of Cougar Sports Saturday on KSL NewsRadio, along with a misfit writer from KSL.com, hopped on the General RV and headed out for Austin, Texas to watch the BYU Cougars take on the Texas Longhorns.

The crew consists of Alex Kirry, Dave Noriega, Jason Shepherd and yours truly. Basically it's four dudes in one RV for over 1,300 miles, which will result in laughs, memories and a serious funk. All of which were accomplished on day one.

The trip started a little late and we managed to make it all the way to Spanish Fork before calling it a break for lunch. From there we carried on to the one and only Moab, Utah where we had an idea. Granted, it wasn't a good one, but it was an idea nonetheless.

Every year in Britain the Copper's Hill cheese rolling is held and it's just what it sounds like: A wheel of cheese rolls down a hill and loads of mad men and women run after it resulting in broken bones, bruised egos and the smallest amount of pride. There's a large sand hill just before you hit Moab, some of you may know it, and we had the idea to do the Copper's Hill run, but do it in sand and chase after a football.

The results were as expected: sore shoulders, bruised legs, concussion-like symptoms and copious amounts of sand in the RV for the remainder of the trip. We've added a video to give you the whole picture.

After some dinner we made our way to Cortez, Colorado where I sit now on my bed getting ready to knock off for the night, complete with funk and sand.

While the day was fun and exhausting, it was, unfortunately, sidelined by some upsetting and saddening news. As KSL.com has already reported former BYU quarterback Max Hall was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting and drug possession.

While the immediate thought seems to go to football, we quickly realize that there is much more at stake here than fan loyalties and football games past and future. A man's life has been drastically altered and our thoughts and well wishes should be focused on him and his family. Some things are bigger than college football, not many things, but some.

Tomorrow we're headed to Albuquerque, New Mexico and will actually be spending the evening with a BYU fan and his family who live there. We're looking forward to good food, great football conversation and making new friends.
