LAS VEGAS — Just like George Costaznza, former BYU big man Brandon Davies decided to leave on a high note. In his final game with the Los Angeles Clippers' summer league team on Friday, Davies scored 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Brandon also had six rebounds, two assists, three steals and one blocked shot.

After the game, Davies told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that he was pleased with how he played during the team's five games in Sin City.

"I think I did pretty good this week," Davies said. "I just got better every day, every game, and that's all I needed to do. I took it as a learning experience, and I've taken a lot from this. I just feel like I took advantage of the opportunity."

Davies averaged 5.8 points and 4.0 rebounds for the Clippers, while averaging about 16 minutes on the floor per game. While those numbers don't jump out at you, it was the little things that caught the attention of the Clipper coaches.

"I loved his performance," Clippers summer league coach Tyronn Lue told the LVRJ. "He plays hard every possession. He does the right things on both ends of the floor. He got a chance to play a lot more tonight to see what he can do. His effort and the way he makes plays is unbelievable. He did a great job for us."

With summer league over, Brandon's attention now turns to getting an invite to veteran's camp in October. Davies is planning on moving to Los Angeles to continue his off-season workouts.

It's been well-publicized that the Clippers gave Davies a partially-guaranteed contract. That is typically a sign that a team is more interested in a certain player than a normal summer league free agent. Based on LA's financial investment in Davies, as well as the attention he received from the coaches in Las Vegas, it's almost a guarantee that he will be invited to training camp with the Clippers in October.

Getting an invite to veterans' camp is one thing; making the Clippers' opening night roster is another. That's Davies' goal over the next few months as he continues to chase his dream of playing in the NBA.

Unlike the Utah Jazz, who were looking to fill several roster spots this off-season, the Clippers team is just about filled. The league allows 15 players on a roster (12 are active each game). Right now, LA has 13 players under contract, which means that Davies is fighting for one of two open spots. While the competition for those spots will be intense, Davies believes he's headed in the right direction.

"I feel like it's a great situation," Davies said. "I have a great agent who did a really good job getting me into the best possible situation for me. Hopefully, if I keep doing everything that I can control, everything will start falling into place for me. I think my prospects (for making the roster) are pretty good."
